Falling for him was not part of the plan.
It was the
perfect plan. I would marry one of my closest friends and reap the financial rewards.
He needed a savior right when I showed up on my white horse. Weād been friends
for years, so now weād be glorified roommates. No one had to know two straight
guys decided to tie the knot. We agreed nothing would change. Weād just go on
with our normal lives.
That was
the plan until I started to notice more about him than just his laid back vibe.
I started to look forward to coming home. I lived to talk books, art, and love.
Suddenly, we were both feeling things that didnāt make any sense. We didnāt
date men. We had to make a decision ā act on the attraction or try to pretend
it wasnāt there.
One thing
about perfect plans ā sometimes you have to deviate.

As I hand him my wine glass, our hands brush together
causing both of us to pause. My eyes shift to his, and my brow furrows as the
strangest thought settles over me.
āSomething wrong?ā Quinn asks.
I blink rapidly, taking a moment to ground myself.
āJason? You okay?ā
āYes.ā I clear my throat. āIām fine.ā
āYou looked like you were gonna be sick.ā
I swallow hard. āUm, no it passed. Maybe too much wine. Iām good.ā
Quinn smiles. āOkay. Want some water?ā
āI can get it.ā
I stumble to the fridge, reaching in for a bottle of water, but still reeling
from the urge I had to fight back. I wanted to kiss him. Or him to kiss me. I
wanted my male friend to fucking kiss me. Again. Work has been keeping me so
busy, itās been easy to avoid the feelings, but theyāre back. When he touches
my shoulder, I jump back, startled.
Quinn raises his hand. āSorry, man. You sure youāre okay? Youāre acting really
strange.ā
I couldnāt tell him. No way. That would be an invitation. Or admitting
something Iām not sure I want to admit.
āI think Iāll sit down for a minute.ā
āGood idea. Iāll finish up in here.ā
In the living room, I sink into the couch, rubbing my forehead. My mind shifts
back to the night we kissed and Quinn said it was no big deal. But it was.
Because I liked it. A few minutes ago, I was tempted to do it again. What is it
about the guy that makes me feel such strange things? And what would he do if I
actually kissed him?
When he appears again, my breath catches, but I hope he didnāt notice. He sits
on the edge of the coffee table directly in front of me and puts his hands on
both my knees.
āAre you sure you donāt need to see a doctor?ā he asks. āYouāre still really
pale.ā
āIām Irish. Iām always pale.ā
Quinn smiles, softly shaking his head. āYour sense of humor is intact at
least.ā He studies my eyes. āYouāre sure youāre okay?ā
Could I tell him? āI, um, just have a lot on my mind.ā
āOkay. Letās talk. Thatās why Iām here. Do you need advice? I donāt know much
about your world, but maybe I can help.ā
āItās nothing.ā
āIs it your business?ā
āNo.ā
āPersonal then. Something between you and me? Something you want to tell me?ā
āQuinnā¦ā
He nods, still holding my gaze. āIt is me. Did I do something wrong?ā
āNo.ā I shake my head. āNot at all.ā
He stands and as he does my eyes follow him, taking in his masculine body. He
moves beside me. āTell me whatās going on, Jason. I can take it.ā
āUm, well, maybe itās just the wine, but umā¦ā I canāt tell him.
Quinn moves to his knees on the floor in front of me so Iām forced to look at
him again. āWhat?ā
I donāt say a word. Instead, I just lean in and press my lips on his then sit
back abruptly.
A slow smile spreads on Quinnās lips. āYou wanted to kiss me?ā
āI guess I did.ā
āThatās okay.ā
We sit silently for a moment until Quinn slides his hand up my neck, settling
it just under my hair. He pulls me to him and kisses me again, softly, letting
his lips linger on mine. Then he releases me.
āThat was nice,ā he whispers. āDid you think so?ā
I nod. āYeah, Quinn. It was nice, butāā
āShh. No buts. We donāt need to break it down right now.ā
My brow furrows. āAre you sure?ā
āI am sure. Itās just something we both wanted to do, and thatās cool.ā He
grins. āWe are married after all.ā
I laugh softly. āWeāre not that kind of married.ā
He shrugs. āMaybe we are.ā He takes my hand in his. āOr maybe we will be one
day. I think we justā¦ā He tilts his head, fixing those amazing eyes on me.
āJust let it happen.ā
āIt?ā
āWhatever it is. Iām down with that. Are you?ā
