Haunting Echoes & Fates Entwined (Haunting Echoes Book 2) by Caethes Faron

Amaia was one of the most sought after courtesans in King James’s London when she became a vampire. Together with her sire, Lawrence, she works to birth a new, more powerful race of vampires. She has everything she could want: wealth, prestige, and eternal life.

She fears nothing. That is, until Michael, the first man she killed, walks into a tavern twenty-three years after she killed him. He has more reason than most to hate her; he’s the man who gave her the engagement ring she still wears. She’s convinced he’s come back from the grave for one purpose: to destroy her.

Michael’s gray eyes haunt Amaia until she surrenders and goes to him. If her clan finds out about her obsession, they’ll kill her and him. But if she stays away, she’ll go mad. Both paths lead to destruction, and it’s up to Amaia to find a way to keep herself and Michael alive, whether Michael still loves her or not.

Review

Not my usual genre, but every now and then I find the need to delve into something more unusual.
After the first chapter I was already hooked, such a different take on the "frilly" vampire books one normally reads.

A life changed with one bite, Jocelyn becomes Amaia, sired by her "owner"Lawrence.
Her first kill is her fiance, which I believe to have been a deliberate move on the part of Lawrence.
She continues on in her new life, a purpose driven one, as Lawrence is determined to create a new breed of vampire.
However, Amaia has always had a haunting feeling that she is not alone, She is possessed about finding out where it is coming from, putting herself in the line of fire from her coven. But who continues to follow her?

What dangers lurk in the dark and will her feelings of being pursued come to an end?

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was refreshingly different and intriguing..
4 Stars from me.

After centuries of searching, Lawrence has found the perfect person to help him birth a new race of vampires: Jocelyn, the girl he’s groomed to be the most powerful courtesan at the court of King James. All goes according to plan until Michael Barwick arrives at court and threatens everything.

Michael abandoned his life at sea in order to take his place as Baron Barwick after his brother’s death. Overwhelmed by his duties, he’s eager to leave court until Jocelyn sits across from him in a tavern. The intriguing woman soon has him opening his heart to her, and he’s prepared to fight for a place in her life.

Jocelyn’s desire for Michael, the one man who has ever fought past her professional façade to truly love her, threatens her independence. When Lawrence offers her the gift of eternal life, she must choose between the man she loves and the freedom she’s struggled for.

Fates Entwined is a prequel and is intended to be read after Haunting Echoes.

Review

What a change to the first book, Haunting Echoes. In Fates Entwined you feel like you are reading a historical romance instead of a paranormal one.
Here you finally get to "meet" Michael, see him for who he is and why Jocelyn fell in love with him. His never ending pursuit of her warms your heart, and he quickly becomes the hero in ones eyes. On the other hand, you see Lawrence in a very different light, a possessive and selfish man, with an obsession for his "daughter".

What lengths will Michael go to in order to win Jocelyn's hand, and will Lawrence stand by an allow it?
How and where did it all fall apart.

Its weird reading this novel after the first one, as you always feel like you are reading in the past. However it pulled at my reading strings and I enjoyed it immensely.
5 Stars from me.
