Work in Progress by BJ Harvey Blitz

Title: Work in Progress
Series: Cook County #1
Author: BJ Harvey
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 22, 2019
Flipping houses if not for the weak of heart. Neither is falling in love.
Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. Heā€™s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought heā€™d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesnā€™t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus. Then he moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he canā€™t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, whoā€™s set her sights on Jamie being Aprilā€™s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamieā€™s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. Thatā€™s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April heā€™s not just flipping a houseā€”he wants to flip her heart.

ā€œJamie?ā€
ā€œYeah, buddy?ā€
ā€œSo, are you my new dad now?ā€
I open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.
Before Iā€™m able to find the power of speech again, he continues, ā€œBut youā€™re my boss too?ā€
I decide to play along. ā€œYour boss?ā€
He nods. ā€œAt the house. Building and stuff.ā€
ā€œWell, not exactā€”ā€
ā€œSo that makes you my dad boss then?ā€ He has the most serious look on his face, and Iā€™m totally out of my depth here.
ā€œUmā€¦ā€ I look to the door, willing April to walk through it and save me.
ā€œDad boss then,ā€ he says again with a nod. ā€œThatā€™s good. Means I can get more money now.ā€
I cough, reaching over to the nightstand to take a long, much-needed drink from my coffee cup. I say the only thing that comes to mind. ā€œSure thing, buddy.ā€
ā€œAwesome,ā€ he says, a huge smile transforming his face. ā€œThen I can buy flowers for Mom, so the next time you break our garden, I can fix it and make her smile like you did.ā€
ā€œThatā€™s a great idea. Nowā€¦ have you seen my pants?ā€
ā€œAre you not wearing pajamas?ā€ Without warning, he lifts the sheet covering me from the waist down. ā€œOh, youā€™ve got big boy boxers like me. Mommy says I can only wear them when I wear shorts though. Are you sure you wore pants last night? Maybe you wore shorts because youā€™ve got your big boy boxers on.ā€ And thank fuck I kept them on before falling to sleep last night.
ā€œI was definitely wearing pants. Do you want to look in the bathroom for me?ā€
ā€œItā€™s okay. I donā€™t need to. I saw Mommy carrying them into the kitchen.ā€
ā€œLovely?ā€ I yell, hoping she can hear me. When a loud beat starts coming from downstairs, my bullshit sensor starts pinging. April is up to something, especially since itā€™s the exact same Queen song I was playing the night we first met. Two can play this game.
ā€œShould we go get pancakes?ā€ I ask.
ā€œYeah!ā€ he says, jumping up and down before running out of the room.
I move to the bathroom and use the facilities. Searching for my clothes, I come up empty. Sure enough, my pants have indeed disappeared. With nothing else left to do about it, I walk out of the bedroom and down the stairs, wearing nothing but my boxer shorts.
I stop still the moment I enter the kitchen. Just as Iā€™d imagined, April is sitting at the dining table, coffee in hand, her legs up, her ankles crossed on a chair with a wicked smirk on her face. Her only saving grace is the huge plate of pancakes piled high in the middle of the table.
ā€œHey Ax, howā€™s breakfast?ā€ I ask.
ā€œSo good,ā€ he groans, stuffing another forkful of pancake in his mouth.
ā€œWhat are you doing after school today?ā€
His head snaps up. ā€œNuff-thing,ā€ he says with a mouthful of food.
ā€œGood. I was thinking you could bring your mom and gran over and we could give them a tour of the house now that itā€™s finished.ā€
ā€œOh wow. Yeah,ā€ he says, puffing out his little chest. ā€œI can show them where I worked.ā€
ā€œYep,ā€ I reply with a grin. With his attention back on his rapidly emptying plate, I move in front of April. ā€You look good in my tee. Did you also find my pants on your travels?ā€
Her lips twitch. ā€I thought Iā€™d do some laundry.ā€

Death of the Spirit (Crossing Death #2) by Rick Chiantaretto Blog Tour

Death of the Spirit *Crossing Death #2* Genre~Dark Fantasy/Occult I have no idea who I am anymore. In Los Angeles, I would have given anything to go home to Orenda, my world where magic was alive and nature spoke to me. Now that I'm back I feel out of place, burdened with responsibility. The human part of me misses the simplicity of Earth, the mage part begs for connection with magic, and the demon part? I don't want to admit that exists. As the darkness inside me grows, Iā€™ll learn to sacrifice for the greater good, as my people have always done. In order to save my family (both mage and human alike), I must face my nightmare, embrace the demon, and descend into the shadowy world of my enemyā€”the Hell of the Damned. Once there, I will have nothing left to fear but myself: Edmund Gavel, human, mage, demon... maybe monster.
