Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m married (20+ years) to my high school sweetheart. We have three adult children and live in Texas. I love to read, quilt, and knit.
What inspired you to write your first book?
A dare. I dared myself to write a book during NaNoWriMo. That was over ten years ago. But when our youngest graduated last year I knew it was time to give my books a fair shot.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
I always through I’d write contemporary romance. But I have a thing for Beauty and the Beast. I thought why not start with a story I love and add my love for romance with the dark edge of the curse lingering over “Beast’s” head. Beastly Curse had a ring to it and most people get it before reading the description.
Describe your main character in five words.
Dark. Driven. Broken. Passionate. Loyal.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing your new release?
I learned about laws to protect wolves. I didn’t realize it was such a hot topic. But yeah, I know a lot about wolves now. I think I need to write an entire werewolf series with all the information I learned.
Have you ever done anything strange or weird in the name of research?
OMG…yes. Not for this book but another one. I went to the Mob Museum in Las Vegas and spent six hours there researching. I even tasted four types of moonshine. I had a blast!
How long does it take you to write a book?
A few months of focused writing time. But I “dated” the characters, outlined and researched for almost a year.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?
It’s rough…but I think you’ll enjoy it. Its call Forbidden and releases in March 2020.
Obasi… I call spirit to spirit, holding the edge of my desk as the pain intensifies. The vision of metal piercing his flesh almost brings me to my knees. “Urgh…Taye!”
I remove my tie, kicking off my shoes beneath the desk. I’ve ruined more suits than I care to count during the passage, I’ll need them for when I return. I glance over to see Taye standing in the doorway within seconds. He assesses my state and hits the activation button beneath the ledge of the windowpane that faces out towards the hallway. A soundproof panel lowers and latches close.
I drag to my feet tossing my jacket to my desk and pushing my pants off. I undress down to my underclothes. The Dakexon Kingdom is fighting to protect its land and my protector needs me. My body anticipates the shift as adrenaline surges through my veins. It’s kills the pain like morphine. My body jerks back and forth until I fall on all fours.
Taye walks further into my office as the surface of the painting glows to life. I crawl several steps when another piercing stab goes through my shoulder. I buckle groaning in pain.
“Asaad crossover. Cross.”
I focus on the light. It hurts like hell, but war brings casualties and injuries. Hold on my friend, I ignore the pain and concentrate on passing through the portal.
“Godspeed.”
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I’m a binge writer. I push through my first draft in about ten to fourteen days. Then I take my time editing. For those writing days I write all day, literally. Sometimes ten to twelve hours.
But I have some strict guidelines, I have to rest. I get a full night’s sleep and I take an afternoon nap. I wake up at two in the morning to flesh out my outline for the day. I workout around six in the morning and by eight I’m in full writing mode.
Do you have any writing rituals?
No. Not really. Other than music. I usually listen to one song on repeat for the entire book. It drives my family nuts, so my husband bought me some fancy headphones. lol
What book are you reading now?
I read by mood but try to read at least an hour a day.
Elite Supernatural Trackers by Heather Renee,
Back to You by Bella Fontaine, and
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I love fairytales. But this isn’t a fairytale made for kids. ;)
Beastly Curse pays homage to my favorite love story with a little more grit, passion, and characters you’ll recognize. It requires a suspension of reality but not so much that you can’t see yourself in this story…in this world.
I hope you’ll grab a copy and tell your reading friends about it.
