What happens when the ghosts
𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊
Happily married with the affection and respect of those he holds dear, Fabian Bloom finally finds inner peace. However, fresh nightmares about his horrific past start to plague the man's sleep, shadowing his newfound happiness and worrying the one he loves. A trip to his cabin in Montana offers the opportunity for the couple to relax and enjoy the solitude of the place.
After reuniting with his two sons, marrying the man he had loved for eleven years and watching his young protegees blooming into strong young men, Lance Hansen has everything he ever wished for. When his husband’s past is revealed in all its darkness and horror, the man is completely unprepared, and their world begins to crumble.
Will the two men be able to face the ghosts that threaten to destroy everything they love and fight so hard for? Or will they end up sucked into a whirlwind that will rip them apart forever?
EXCERPT #1
“What is my beautiful husband thinking of?” Fabian kissed the corner of Lance’s mouth, then gently sucked his earlobe. “Or do you want to keep it secret? Should I be jealous?” The last part he spoke playfully, yet contained a note of worry and sadness. “There is only one man in the entire universe who makes my heart beat fast and never leaves my thoughts.” Lance leaned toward his husband. “That special, beautiful, caring man is you; my lover, partner, most trusted friend, and husband.” Lance took Fabian’s hand, tenderly caressing his fingers. “We belong to each other forever, remember?” “How can I forget?” He curled his fingers around his husband’s. “You saved me from that horrible nightmare when I couldn’t save myself. If not for you… it might have swallowed me up.” Fabian inched closer. “It feels like a heavy door closed on a very dark part of my past. Like…” He frowned and added in a whisper, “… like I got the closure I needed… and now I’m at peace with the past.” Fabian slid his arm around Lance and pressed his lips to his shoulder. “Strangely,” Lance murmured, “I’ve been thinking about someone who hasn’t come to mind in thirty-three years.” He sighed. “I had a younger brother who disappeared just before his eighteenth birthday. We never heard from him since.” Lance’s eyes turned dull as the light faded out of them. “You’ve never mentioned him,” Fabian said quietly. “It must have been a terrible time for your family. I can understand. I was there when Daniel went missing at twelve. I witnessed the devastation in my brother Sebastian and his husband Joraan. My heart ached for them… but they wouldn’t have believed I cared.” He fell silent, a film of sadness glazing his sapphire eyes. Lance squeezed his hand, his throat tight. “Samuel was intelligent, studious, polite. A dutiful son and an affectionate younger brother.” He blinked and exhaled softly. “Studying medicine and working with my father was his dream, but he didn’t get the chance to go to college… medical school.” Lance frowned and looked at Fabian, his husband’s words from a moment ago pressing through. “Why do you think your family wouldn’t believe that you were sorry for your brother and brother-in-law?” Fabian paused, wanting to back down, but Lance gave his hand a soft, reassuring squeeze. “I was the col, career-driven, calculated bastard who didn’t give a damn about anything and only cared about his own interests.” He shrugged. “I guess to some extent their image of me was correct.”
EXCERPT #2
“Uncle Fabian, do you have a minute?” Peyton hesitantly entered the man’s office, closing the door behind them. “I need to talk to you about something important.” “Of course. Have a seat.” Fabian studied Peyton, the rigid posture and troubled look in their eyes sparked concern in the older man. “Is something wrong?” Peyton nodded as they sat down. “About a week ago, I hired someone… a homeless man… as a custodian for the school. But now I’m not sure if I did the right thing. Something seemed off about him, but I couldn’t send him away on a gut feeling. It would have been… unprofessional.” Peyton sighed heavily, shaking their head. “You ran the standard background check, and he came up clean?” The principal nodded. Fabian frowned. “What was suspect about him?” “I don’t know,” Peyton murmured. “It was something about his attitude. Kind of cold. Arrogant, even. He just didn’t come off as a typical homeless person. I’ve seen many people lose their homes and end up on the streets… none of them displayed his behavior. They were often talkative, willing to help and share, but this man… I don’t know.” Peyton bit their lower lip and stared at the floor. “Why didn’t you call me?” Fabian asked. “I would have assisted with the interview and helped you decide.” Peyton shrugged. “With no news from Ardan and the crew, I didn’t want to bother you with something that seemed so trivial. I asked the night shift guards to monitor him. They said he made significant efforts to befriend them and get them to talk.” Peyton ran a hand over their face. “The guards also noticed the way he’s constantly surveying the grounds, almost like he’s trying to… memorize it.” Peyton looked into Fabian’s eyes, hoping the man had some thoughts on the matter. Fabian checked the time and rose from his chair. “I have to meet with someone in an hour and I don’t want to be late… otherwise a little heart will be broken. However, I’ll come back this afternoon after classes and meet the new custodian.” The man smiled reassuringly, helping Peyton to relax. “Meanwhile, tell the guards to watch him closely.”
EXCERPT #3
Alexander Kane studied the man sitting across the desk, surprised by his serene, somewhat detached demeanor. When Fabian Bloom agreed to meet with him, he expected him to crawl at his feet and beg him to spare Ardan MacNamara and take him in his place. But it didn’t happen that way. Here he sat, silent and dignified, a stern expression on his face… as if he—rather than Kane—were the one in control. A brief, troubling thought struck Alexander as he considered Fabian was, indeed, the stronger of the two of them… and him remaining with Alexander had been by choice to destroy the child trafficking ring from within. What if Fabian had been behind Ardan’s escape? He dismissed the thought, recalling how broken Fabian had been when the two of them first met. However, his former plaything’s willingness to meet with him left Alexander with a sense of unease. Would he come here without at least one ace up his sleeve? Alexander didn’t like being in the dark in such matters—didn’t fucking like it at all. Even back when he was under hypnosis and on drugs, Fabian had given him headaches. Always so hard to read. Perhaps Fabian was waiting for him to lose his temper and hit him like before. If so, he was in for a disappointment. During Alexander’s seven-year absence, he had learned to control his temper. Checking his watch, Kane decided to throw out some morsels and see if he could get some reactions from Fabian. “So, Bloom, this is the deal; I’ll show you the photos proving Ardan MacNamara killed me seven years ago—then I’ll destroy them, as promised. Before I do, you will give me your word that you’ll do all I ask of you.” Alexander’s voice remained calm, much to Fabian’s surprise. Fabian nodded. “I’ll give you my word, but how can I be sure you don’t have extra copies of the photos that you’ll use against Ardan in the future?” Fabian leaned forward, eyes narrow and piercing.
