Excerpt
ā€œAh hell, itā€™s Sophia,ā€ the cop said as he crouched next to the woman in Masonā€™s arms. ā€œHow do you know her?ā€  Masonā€™s head jerked up and he eyed the cop. ā€œSheā€™s been looking for her brother again.  He keeps running away from his foster home.  Sheā€™s been searching for him the last four nights.  I told her it wasnā€™t safe.ā€  Mason looked down at the unconscious woman and agreed with the patrolmanā€™s assessment. ā€œHow much longer before the ambulance arrives?ā€ Mason clipped out the question. ā€œHow bad is she?  What happened?ā€  The cop nodded to where Masonā€™s jacket was covering Sophiaā€™s torso. ā€œThey just got her top off, but they cut her pretty badly on the arm.  Iā€™ve got her bandaged and most of the bleeding stopped.  Sheā€™s going to need a shit-load of stitches.  Whatā€™s the ETA on the ambulance?ā€  Mason shifted her gently as he again gave the cop a penetrating stare. ā€œItā€™s about fifteen more minutes.  There was a bad pile-up on the Five Freeway with fatalities.  You did good work tonight.  You military?ā€ the cop asked as he assessed Mason. ā€œSEAL.ā€ ā€œI was Navy too,ā€ the cop said.  ā€œYou okay with her while I work on getting these two assholes taken care of?ā€  The cop nodded towards the two thugs who were sitting handcuffed in the alley and being looked after by his partner. ā€œIā€™ve got her.ā€  Mason looked down at Sophia again ensuring she was okay.  ā€œWhat about the girl who made the call?ā€ ā€œWhat girl?ā€ the cop asked. Mason looked around and realized the girl and his phone were long gone. ā€œThere was another girl who looked like sheā€™d been beaten too.  She got me to come over here to help.ā€  Mason gave the information like he was reporting to his commander. ā€œShe must have taken off after she called for help,ā€ the officer said. ā€œOh no,ā€ came the soft words.  Mason looked down and saw green eyes clouded with worry looking up at him. ā€œWhat?  Did you say something Sophia?ā€ he asked. ā€œThe girl is gone?  Sheā€™s hurt.ā€  It was hard to understand her through her bruised mouth. ā€œSettle honey, youā€™re hurt.  You need to stay calm and rest until the ambulance comes.ā€  Mason watched as she struggled to get up, and then cried out in pain.  She collapsed against him.  Fuck, it had to be her shoulder.  Heā€™d already taken off his shirt and used it as a bandage and a tourniquet earlier.  He eased back the leather jacket that he had placed over her to see if it had come loose. ā€œDonā€™t move again, okay Sophia.ā€  God, when would the ambulance get here? ā€œYouā€™ve got to find the girl I think they cut her too.  Iā€™ve got to get up, I need to look for Billy.  Please donā€™t hold me down.  I need to get up, let me up,ā€ she damn near screamed the last few words.  Mason realized she was delirious.  The cop looked over at him and he shook his head. ā€œSophia, my name is Mason.  Weā€™re going to get you to the hospital.  Do you understand me, honey?ā€  He waited to see if she was tracking.  She finally nodded.  ā€œGood, after theyā€™re done taking care of you, you can come look for Billy again.ā€  She relaxed a little, and he relaxed a little as well. ā€œAnd the girl?  Can I look for the girl too?ā€ she begged him with big eyes. ā€œYes, you can look for the girl too.ā€  He stroked the hair from her forehead. ā€œDo you promise Mason?ā€  She tried to lift her arm to grab the front of his jacket and let out a small shriek of pain.  ā€œWhy does it hurt?ā€  He saw her start to tremble and wrapped his jacket closer around her ensuring it was snug so she couldnā€™t move her arms any longer. ā€œAre you warm now?ā€ ā€œYes.  Will I be able to go to work and then look for Billy tomorrow?ā€  It took a moment for him to understand her, and when he did it took him a few seconds to formulate a response other than ā€˜Hell Noā€™. ā€œI think youā€™re going to be in the hospital for at least a couple of days.ā€ ā€œNo, I hate hospitals, donā€™t make me go to the hospital.ā€  He watched as tears dripped down her temples into her silky blonde hair. ā€œHoney, you have to go youā€™ve been injured.  A doctor has to help you.ā€  She was trembling so bad he was worried she was going into shock. ā€œI canā€™t afford a hospital.  Can you take me home?ā€  God, she was breaking his heart. ā€œLetā€™s see what the doctor says first.ā€ Mason heard the siren and Sophia must have heard it too.  Somehow she pushed off the heavy leather coat.  ā€œNo, no ambulance, no hospital.  I have to find Billy.ā€  She tried getting up one last time and groaned as she put pressure on her cut shoulder. ā€œYouā€™ve got to stay still.ā€  He couldnā€™t believe the compassion this woman had, here she was bleeding and bruised, almost raped, and her entire concern was for her brother and the other girl.  She was beautiful inside and out. Just then she gripped her head where he saw a large bruise and lump forming.  He saw her green eyes begin to glaze over.  ā€œHoney, stay with me.ā€  He brushed his fingers tenderly along her cheek willing her to stay awake. ā€œMasonā€™s a nice name,ā€ her words were slurred. Just as the EMTā€™s arrived she passed out. seal teaser 3-jpeg

Author Bio
Caitlyn O'Leary was raised in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. She has been an avid reader. Her earliest creative writing endeavors consisted of "ghost writing" exercises in which she pretended to be her younger brothers and sisters when she did their homework assignments before they turned them in as their own. Years in corporate America honed her ability to manipulate words by day, and at night she read everything she could get her hands on, including many, romances! Happily married to her long, tall Texan and living in Southern California, Caitlyn has finally found the time to write very steamy happily-every-afters for Siren/Bookstrand. She has just started writing the Found series. It's a bit Paranormal, a bit Sci-Fi and 100% Action/Adventure. The characters have special abilities, that make them targets. She loves to hear from her readers. caitlyn@caitlynoleary.com Keep Up With Caitlyn Oā€™Leary Facebook:  http://tinyurl.com/nuhvey2 Twitter:  https://twitter.com/CaitlynOLearyNA Pinterest:  http://tinyurl.com/q36uohc Goodreads:  http://tinyurl.com/nqy66h7 Website:  www.caitlynoleary.com Email:  Caitlyn@caitlynoleary.com

Death of the Spirit (Crossing Death #2) by Rick Chiantaretto Blog Tour

Death of the Spirit *Crossing Death #2* Genre~Dark Fantasy/Occult I have no idea who I am anymore. In Los Angeles, I would have given anything to go home to Orenda, my world where magic was alive and nature spoke to me. Now that I'm back I feel out of place, burdened with responsibility. The human part of me misses the simplicity of Earth, the mage part begs for connection with magic, and the demon part? I don't want to admit that exists. As the darkness inside me grows, Iā€™ll learn to sacrifice for the greater good, as my people have always done. In order to save my family (both mage and human alike), I must face my nightmare, embrace the demon, and descend into the shadowy world of my enemyā€”the Hell of the Damned. Once there, I will have nothing left to fear but myself: Edmund Gavel, human, mage, demon... maybe monster.
